Dragons Bait
Desiree Boland

My book title is: Dragons Bait
It has 208 pages and I have finished this novel.
It was written by: Vivian Vande Velde in the year1992
The main character in my book Alys is being accused of being a witch. They put her out on the hill there was a ferocious dragon that would devour her. Her father was the only one who knew she really wasn’t a witch but, unfortunately he died from the stress of his daughter being accused. Alys must find a way to escape the grip of the rope clutching her wrists, or stay and face the dreaded dragon.
My character handles the situation well of being tied up and served as food for the dragon. She is very brave because she witnessed her own father die before her but still she stands her ground. She is being faced with a very scary event but she doesn’t cry or scream. She doesn’t run away when faced with the Dragon instead she gets ready to be eaten. Luckily she doesn’t and she be friends the dragon. For an example; when Alys freed the rope she just stood their and accepted her fate.
My book was a book you can pick up and read whenever you want. It is really interesting so it’s hard to put it down, but ten minutes of reading does benefit me and further improve my knowledge of what went on in the book. The chapters are well paged and aren’t too long or too short. Every chapter was filled with new problems and new friendships making it hard to stop reading. I never knew what was going to happen next so it was a guessing game when I wasn’t reading. For an example; when Alys was faced with the dragon, I didn’t know if she was going to be taken prisoner or eaten. But neither of that happened. She actually befriended him which I was expecting at all.
The most important lesson is that you shouldn’t judge people before you know them. Stress and hardship is caused from judging people and accusing them of false information. The story teaches you about how friendships that would never be expected are made and how they grow through each obstacle and event in life.
This book is a story of friendship from the least expectant of pairs. A Young girl and a dragon, bond together as they face challenging obstacles and enemies. To claim back freedom they must work together and come up with plans that are dangerous and could get them in a lot of trouble.
This novel is an exciting journey between a young girl and an unexpected friend. They work together to change the judgment of a town. Obstacles await the friends that are tricky. Will they be able to finish there mission? Or will the judgment continue to hurt families.
If I could change one thing about this novel I would change the relationship between the two main characters. I would make their relationship stronger and maybe even create a romantic relationship. I think if they had a love bond the book would have been more of a page turner. The end of the book was a disappointment because I thought that Alys and the dragon would become just more than friends. The dragon is a man that transforms into a dragon. I wish that the author could’ve made the dragon stay as a man, and fall in love with Alys.
I think the writing of this author was well done and made it interesting, except for the ending. I wanted to keep on reading to see what changes between characters and what other obstacles they face. I like how the chapters were short and every chapter was a new challenge, and the book was an easy read and very understandable. I felt like it was a book that made me think what I would do if I was in their situation and what I would have done differently. I would have faced some of the obstacles differently, to get closer to the dragon.
I love fantasy books with dragons and princesses. I also read Dragon Rider by: Cornelia Funk. I LOVED Dragon Rider and I was glued to every page. I thought this book was similar because it’s a fight against evil between a human and a dragon. Throughout both books, the human and dragon bonds do things to save each other. Dragon Rider was longer but I felt like Dragons Bait was a smaller version of this. Even though the problems were different in both books, I felt like the intensity of the problems were both high. I felt like Dragon Rider was a better book but I would recommend both of them to any fantasy reader.
